Famous inland attractions in Coron

Coron does not only exhibit its stunning beaches, marine sanctuaries, and islands, but it also left tourists in awe with its breath-taking terrestrial landscapes. Wandering around the town to discover the inland attractions requires a mode of transportation such as a tricycle, motorbike, and van. Adventurers can also enjoy hiking and walking, going to some of the magnificent sceneries of the municipality. Each upcountry panorama of Coron brings unique attributes that continue to allure the travellers.

Let us guide you through some of the famous inland destinations in the town!

Take a fresh mountain-air at Mt. Tapyas

For visitors to witness the stunning moment of dusk in Coron, climbing the grassy Mt. Tapyas is ideal, measuring about 210 meters with 721 steps. Thus, the 2nd highest mountain and among the most prominent landform in the municipality. Climbing to the summit is easy as concrete steps were built to the comfort of the travelers. There are benches along the way for a moment of respite to tourists before reaching the mountaintop. Yes! You can burn your calories upon trekking to Mt. Tapyas.

Aside from experiencing the fresh mountain breeze skimming your skin, the spot is also perfect for sightseeing, as it is overlooking the colorful sky painted on the horizon of Coron bay and its adjacent heavy-forested islands. Travelers can freely witness the mesmerizing dense jungle and hills engulfing the town. At the summit, where the view deck is located, there is a giant cross sturdy built, which added to the attractions of the mountain. Mt. Tapyas is accessible to everyone in the Coron town proper.

What’s more exciting is that there is no entrance to fee to this beautiful spot, which added interest among tourists to stay active and relish the view during their vacation in the place.

A glimpse of Africa at Calauit Safari Park

From the underwater world is the impressive terrain of Calauit Safari Park, which offers you a taste of Africa in a pleasant tropical setting giving comfort to the wild animals.

The park is a grand experience, especially to zoophilists who never had a close encounter with such wild animals. Tourists who visited the pasturage, which is roughly 70 kilometers away from the Coron town— have the chance to experience waking up to the giraffes, zebras, and deers after a night in an open-walled gazebo as housing to campers. Calauit Safari Park was established in 1976 as a game reserve and wildlife sanctuary on a 3,700-hectare island. It is located in Busuanga, Palawan. A neighboring municipality of Coron. The place will surely lure the eyes of photographers and travel vloggers for its unique beauty.

Reasons Why Tourists are Returning to Coron, Palawan

Tourists are always in awe of the captivating mountain and sea landscapes enveloping the island of Coron, Palawan. It is a paradise-like place secluded in the region of Mimaropa. The island is known as a home or an ancestral domain of the Tagbanua tribe protecting the natural wonders. Traveling on the vibrant land of the municipality will mark amazement and great memories. Returning to the place is a non-negotiable decision as it will make you feel that it’s always a first-time experience. Now, why should you set foot the second time around?

1. SCUBA DIVING ADDS THRILL TO YOUR SECOND-TIME EXPERIENCE

Going island-hopping is just a portion of the exciting activities in Coron. The untouched underwater wonders openly welcome tourists to experience the joy of plunging into the waters. The Philippines is a haven to dive sites, and Coron island also has several spots for an extraordinary vacation. One of the dive sites that continuously fascinate the divers and even the beginners is the Dimanglet Reef. Descending below several times gives you a different experience that you will always want to re-try. How bewildering it is to explore the undersea with diverse marine sanctuaries. A group of Fuselier fish, the colorful parrotfish, and sea turtles swimming just before your eyes will stun you.  The corals, like the cabbage, giving colors and life to the animals below are breathtaking. One couldn’t take their eyes from these wondrous beauties beneath the calm waves.

There are more breathtaking subaquatic sights at Siete Pecados. It is open water that is best for beginners. You can only think of admiration once you submerge and immerse yourself with the astonishing creatures of the deep such as the sea fan and table corals spreading under the vast ocean of Coron. If you are fond of watching how various fish enjoy their haven underwater, the angel, trigger, red snapper, and damselfishes will surely melt your heart —they are lovable! Indeed, it is a call to revisit the island.

2. THE PRISTINE BEACHES STUN EVERY VACATIONIST

Every beach on the island is a breathing haven for travelers! You can overhear other vacationists exclaiming that their second time around is always a discovery. The astounding white-sand beaches serving as relaxation spots are satisfying the visitors. Maybe the word "satisfying" is an understatement for the feeling the beaches are embarking on to the adventurers. The coconut and other trees growing became lusher this time, making the coastline of every beach rewarding for travelers to rest from the hustle and bustle of the city. You are living a dream when visiting phenomenal beaches such as Malcapuya island, banana island, and Bulog Dos.

I, who is a returning visitor is still in awe with Malcapuya island, which is one of the gems of the island. Have a look at this spectacular wonder!

3. THE WORLD WAR II SHIPWRECKS

Coron earned the spot as the best shipwreck diving in Southeast Asia. The historical shipwrecks are making the island famous to local and international divers. Certified and advanced divers return to re-experience and not just re-imagine the enchanting wrecks found beneath the sea. Different versions of stories from people who descend through the deep are thrilling but rewarding new adventures for them.

There are a few shallow wartime ships that sunk suitable for snorkeling. These are the Lusong gunboat and East Tangat. The latter showcases vibrant seabed inhabitants, which are vividly visible using goggles. Having your eyes wander below will leave a mark of astonishment.

The following are the identified historical shipwrecks that you can dive into and their respective estimated depths:

Some vacationists have not yet visited the Calauit Safari in Busuanga, Palawan. It is a neighboring municipality of Coron, which is a 45-minute to one-hour land transport. From the Busuanga proper, you will travel by land for 30 minutes and another 20 minutes boat ride before reaching the entrance to the park. It is a vast land located towards the end of Busuanga.

Surprisingly, Calauit Safari brings a unique jungle experience to an island home to pristine white-sand beaches. You will have a close encounter with Kenyan giraffes and zebras freely wandering the extensive park. Once you enter the haven of the wilds, you will see some Calamian wild deer sharing life with the various trees and grasses sprouting in the vicinity.

By riding a truck, the tour guides will bring you to another park with a python caged in his home, little crocodiles, porcupines, philippine eagles, and monkeys. Calauit Safari should be in your bucket place when revisiting Coron!
